about

This infamous Flag Day gig is one of the only documents of The Fussbudgets in concert. Although it is just the songwriting duo, it captures the band as they are starting to take themselves seriously—or as seriously as possible—as a recording and performing entity. The Albion was an unpretentious Mission District bar with a small stage in the back that hosted a regular open mic which Larry frequented. Thus it seemed the perfect spot to not only play but record for posterity, a sort of avant-pop cotillion. Larry's awkward stage banter is balanced out by Chris' multiple string breaks, showing the two's lack of polish and/or self-imposed refusal to put on a smooth show. Nonetheless the performance is pretty good, showcasing some songs from the band's catalogue that were otherwise never captured to tape, as well as a cover of Mott the Hoople's “I Wish I Was Your Mother.”

about

The Fussbudgets San Francisco, California

The Fussbudgets were formed in 1987 in San Francisco, by Larry O. Dean (Malcontent, Post Office, The Me Decade, The Injured Parties) and Chris Lehmann (The Charm Offensive) with bassist Ned Doherty (All Ones, Mushroom). They recorded a series of cassette-only releases that were sporadically distributed, but which received glowing reviews in the US and UK press, as well as local radio airplay. ... more
